--- title: Vibeshift2021: Substack Party slug: substack-party channel: archive publishedAt: 2021-06-19 excerpt: JOIN THE PARTY // MAILRING INSIDE author: Charlotte Fang tags: - Essay canonical: https://remilia.org/blog/archive/substack-party --- JOIN THE PARTY // MAILRING INSIDE **Why email** email is the most robust protocol for digital communication. USENET is still live and kicking, i use it to pirate anime. each dispatch sent through email is far more powerful for engagement, there are no intervening algorithms manipulating its exposure (beyond problems of email server deboosting/spamfiltering, which is a non-issue as substack’s servers are considered trusted providers), every post being sent directly to each of your readers, beautiful— it’s incredibly hard to censure, with data decentralized by design: think about it, each email is a self-contained dispatch hosted in every recipient’s inbox. they can take away your mailing address but you can just move providers: it’s the mailing list of recipients that’s your actual lifeforce—it’s an extremely simple universal csv export: just a comma dilineated list of email addresses… Export daily they can’t stop you. If they delete your substack, just move to mailchimp. If mailchimp throttles you, move to gmail. with a mailing list, you can go anywhere. And post anything. I LOVE EMAIL!! **Why substack** Substack is cool bc it makes it a trivial setup in a blog-like format, and also duplicates the emails to the live web for easy sharing (which makes it easily tied to RSS, another most robust medium in reducing internet content to a pure text feed) and as a centralized archive; it’s not robust in this sense, as a website-blog, but it’s a useful tool of convenience. and YES IK its a cringe infocommercialist web-gentrified carpetbagging podcaster geek bitches retard space, the information-goons of Silicon Valley only let it get away with reviving the blog in the robust form of RSS-emails because it introduces email paywalling (HUGE eSin, DO NOT TRY THIS)… so we’re stuck forming the dissident underground in the shadows of gentrified infra by forming a posting space against the algorithm until the new web rolls out, ok? you already knew this. let’s play ### // RULES OF ENGAGEMENT // - EVERYONE makes an account, ITS EASY, (even lurkers—[use the reader](https://reader.substack.com/)) - Post hard and overshare - Never delete. don’t even backspace - Like every post you read. even if it’s seen on email - Comment as much as you can, in as much length as you can. no more ghost town. Comment on your own posts too you can do that - Repost your old posts no one cares. everything else online is sand running through hands. repost others too, who cares, credit is for weenies don’t bother - **IF YOU PAYWALL YOU ARE CANCELED** - \[SECRET TECHNIQUE] How to retweet: ctrl+a, ctrl+v - BRING YOUR FRIENDS ### // THE MAILRING // HOW TO GET IN: Copy and paste the full mailring somewhere on your /about page, then comment below to be added to the list.
